KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning next year, Sept 16, which is Malaysia Day has been declared a public holiday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the day would involve activities that would foster the 1Malaysia spirit.

He added this meant Malaysians would have a twin celebration, to commemorate the country’s independence starting next year

Najib said National Day on Aug 31 would be celebrated with formal events such as a parade to commemorate the historical moment and it would remind the people about the struggle in achieving independence from the colonists.

He made the announcement during the question-and-answer session at Parliament on Monday.

Najib said Sabah and Sarawak, which joined Malaysia in 1963 and the formation of Malaysia as an independent country was a very important moment in history.

“We want the joy and sorrows of the people in Sabah and Sarawak to be felt by the people in the Peninsula,” he said.

“Therefore, I would like to announce to the people of Malaysia that the Cabinet has recently made the decision to celebrate Hari Malaysia on Sept 16 starting 2010.”

Malaysia Day would be celebrated with events that would foster closer unity, understanding between the different races and community success and achievement through sports, social culture and arts, to spur the 1Malaysia spirit, he added.

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) -- After a stomach-churning takeoff from a 550-meter runway at Long Banga airstrip on the Malaysian side of the island of Borneo, the 19-seat plane soars over a green tropical wilderness. This is one of the world’s last remaining virgin rain forests.

About 30 minutes into the flight to the bustling oil town of Miri, the lush landscape changes, and neatly terraced fields of oil palms take the place of jungle. Twenty years ago, this was forestland. Now, those forests are lost forever.

The shift from rain forest to oil palm cultivation in Malaysia’s Sarawak state highlights the struggle taking place between forces favoring economic development, led by Sarawak state’s chief minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud, and those who want to conserve the rain forest and the ways of life it supports.

During Taib’s 28-year rule, his government has handed out concessions for logging and supported the federal government’s megaprojects, including the largest hydropower site in the country and, most recently, oil palm plantations. The projects are rolling back the frontiers of Borneo’s rain forest, home to nomadic people and rare wildlife such as orangutans and proboscis monkeys.

At least four prominent Sarawak companies that have received contracts or concessions have ties to Taib or his family.

Transforming Malaysia

The government of Malaysia plans to transform the country into a developed nation by 2020 through a series of projects covering everything from electric power generation to education. The country’s gross domestic product, which has been growing at an average 6.7 percent annual pace since 1970, shrank 6.2 percent in the first quarter.

In Sarawak, Taib’s government is following its own development plans that call for doubling the state’s GDP to 150 billion ringgit ($42 billion) by 2020. Sarawak Energy Bhd., which is 65 percent owned by the state government, said in July 2007 it plans to build six power plants, including hydropower and coal-fired generators.

The state government also wants to expand the acreage in Sarawak devoted to oil palms to 1 million hectares (2.5 million acres) by 2010, from 744,000 at the end of 2008, according to Sarawak’s Ministry of Land Development. Companies that formerly chopped down hardwood trees and exported the timber are now moving into palm plantations.

Lawsuits Filed

Meanwhile, many of the ethnic groups who have traditionally lived from the land in Sarawak -- known as Dayaks -- have filed lawsuits that aim to block some projects and seek better compensation.

Sarawak’s ambitions could be hindered by a lack of good governance, which would shut out overseas investors, says Steve Waygood, head of sustainable and responsible investment research at Aviva Investors in London, which manages more than $3 billion in sustainable assets.

“Even just the perception of corruption can lead to restricted inflows of capital from the global investment community into emerging markets such as Sarawak,” says Waygood, who wrote about reputational risk in a 2006 book, “Capital Market Campaigning” (Risk Books).

“The largest and most responsible financial institutions are very careful to avoid funding unsustainable developments,” he says.

Unilever, which buys 1.5 million tons of palm oil a year -- 4 percent of the world’s supply -- for use in products such as Dove soap and Flora margarine, announced in May that it would buy only from sustainable sources.

No Direct Purchases

“Unilever does not source any palm oil directly from Sarawak,” says Jan Kees Vis, Unilever’s director of sustainable agriculture. “We buy from plantation companies and traders located elsewhere.”

He says Unilever has committed by 2015 to buy all of its palm oil from sources certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, a group representing palm oil producers, consumers and nongovernmental organizations that seeks to establish standards for sustainably produced palm oil. The Malaysian Palm Oil Association, a government-supported group of Malaysian plantation companies, is a member of the RSPO.

About 35 percent of the world’s cooking oil comes from palm -- more than any other plant, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. And 90 percent of the world’s palm oil comes from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Skittles and Soap

The oil is an ingredient used in everything from Skittles candy to Palmolive soap to some kinds of biodiesel fuel. Palm oil futures have climbed 45 percent this year as of Aug. 24 on concern that dry weather caused by El Nino may reduce output. Crude oil prices rose to a 10-month high of $74.24 a barrel, spurring demand for biodiesel.

Malaysia lost 6.6 percent of its forest cover from 1990 to 2005, or 1.49 million hectares, the most-recent data available from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization show. That’s an area equivalent to the state of Connecticut.

Neighboring Indonesia lost forestland at the fastest annual rate among the world’s 44 forest nations from 2000 to 2005, Amsterdam-based Greenpeace says.

“Palm oil is the new green gold after timber,” says Mark Bujang, executive director of the Borneo Resources Institute in Miri, a city of about 230,000 people in Sarawak. “It has become the most destructive force after three decades of unsustainable logging.”

While Malaysia’s palm oil exports have more than doubled to a record 46 billion ringgit in 2008 from 2006, according to the country’s central bank, the gain has come at a price.

Displaced People

Development projects and palm plantations have displaced thousands of people, some of whom have lived for centuries by fishing, hunting and farming in the jungle. Almost 200 lawsuits are pending in the Sarawak courts relating to claims by Dayak people on lands being used for oil palms and logging, according to Baru Bian, a land rights lawyer representing many of the claimants.

A handful of activists have been found dead under mysterious circumstances or disappeared, including Swiss environmental activist Bruno Manser, who vanished in the jungle in 2000.

Cutting down rain forests to cultivate palms in Sarawak has consequences far beyond Malaysia, says Janet Larsen, director of research at the Washington-based Earth Policy Institute.

The forests that are being destroyed help modulate the climate because they remove vast stores of carbon from the atmosphere. Chopping down the trees ends up releasing greenhouse gases.

‘Lungs of the Planet’

“These last remaining forests are the lungs of the planet,” Larsen says. “It affects us all.”

Chief Minister Taib, 73, has multiple roles in Sarawak. He’s also the state’s finance minister and its planning and resources management minister -- a role that gives him the power to dispense land, forestry and palm oil concessions as well as the power to approve infrastructure projects.

Until last year, Taib held the additional role of chairman of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corp., which fosters wood-based industries in the state.

Anwar Ibrahim, the former Malaysian finance minister who’s the head of the country’s opposition alliance, sees parallels between Taib’s rule and those of other long-standing leaders in Southeast Asia, such as former Indonesian President Suharto and former Philippine leader Ferdinand Marcos.

“It’s an authoritarian style of governance to protect their turf and their families,” says Anwar, who was fired as deputy prime minister by then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in 1998 and jailed on charges of having homosexual sex and abusing power. The sodomy conviction was overturned in 2004.

‘Driven by Greed’

Sim Kwang Yang, an opposition member of parliament for Sarawak’s capital city of Kuching from 1982 to 1995, agrees with Anwar’s assessment. “It is crony capitalism driven by greed without any regard for the people,” he says.

Taib’s adult children and his late wife, Lejla, together owned more than 29.3 percent of Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd., the state’s largest industrial group, with 40 companies involved in construction, property development, road maintenance, trading and financial services, according to the company’s 2008 annual report.

Local residents jokingly say that the company’s initials, CMS, stand for “Chief Minister and Sons.”

In total, CMS has won about 1.3 billion ringgit worth of projects from the state and the federal government since the beginning of 2005, according to the firm’s stock exchange filings.

Taib declined to comment for this article. In an interview he gave to Malaysia’s state news agency, Bernama, on Jan. 13, 2001, Taib said CMS’s ties to him had nothing to do with its winning government jobs.

‘Not Involved’ in Contracts

“I am not involved in the award of contracts,” he said. “No politician in Sarawak is involved in the award of contracts.”

He told Bernama he doesn’t ask for special treatment of his sons. “I never ask anybody to do any favors,” he said.

Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the elder of Taib’s two sons, is CMS’s deputy chairman and owns 8.92 percent of the firm, according to the annual report. Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib, the younger son and CMS’s chairman until 2008, holds an 8.94 percent stake.

Taib’s two daughters and his son-in-law are also listed in the annual report as “substantial shareholders.”

Taib’s History

Taib, a Muslim who belongs to the Melanau group -- one of about 27 different ethnic groups in Sarawak -- entered politics at the age of 27 after graduating from the University of Adelaide in Australia with a law degree in 1960.

He held various ministerial positions in Sarawak and Malaysia before taking over in 1981 as the chief minister from his uncle, Abdul Rahman Yaakub. Rahman, now 81, ruled Sarawak for 11 years.

Taib, who has silver hair, appears almost daily on the front pages of Sarawak newspapers, sometimes sporting a goatee and a pair of rimless glasses, at the opening of new development projects or local events.

He lives in Sarawak’s capital city of Kuching, an urban area of about 600,000 people on the Sarawak River. Its picturesque waterfront is dotted with colonial buildings, the legacy of British adventurer James Brooke, who founded the Kingdom of Sarawak in 1841 and became known as the White Rajah. Brooke’s heirs ruled the kingdom until 1946, when Charles Vyner Brooke ceded his rights to the U.K. Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaysia on Sept. 16, 1963, along with other former British colonies.

Cousin’s Role

At Taib’s mansion, which overlooks the river, he receives guests in a living room decorated with gilt-edged European-style sofa sets, according to photos in the July to December 2006 newsletter of Naim Cendera Holdings Bhd., which changed its name to Naim Holdings Bhd. in March.

Naim is a property developer and contractor whose chairman is Taib’s cousin, Abdul Hamed Sepawi. He is also chairman of state power company Sarawak Energy and timber company Ta Ann Holdings Bhd., and is on the board of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corp. and Sarawak Plantation Bhd.

Naim and CMS jointly built Kuching’s iconic waterfront building, the umbrella-roofed, nine-story Sarawak State Legislative Assembly complex. Naim has won more than 3.3 billion ringgit worth of contracts from the state and the federation since 2005, its stock exchange filings show.

Companies Respond

Ricky Kho, a spokesman for Naim, said the company declined to comment for this article. Naim’s deputy managing director, Sharifuddin Wahab, said in an interview with Bloomberg News in July 2007 that the chairman’s family ties weren’t why the company won government contracts.

“We have been able to execute our projects on time, we stick to the budget and the quality of what we hand over to the government is up to their expectations, if not more,” he said.

“Our teams have always acted professionally” when working with the government, whether on large or small projects, CMS’s group managing director, Richard Curtis, said in an e-mail. “CMS is governed by the strict listing regulations of the Malaysian stock exchange,” he said, adding that the chairman and the group managing director are both independent.

“The large projects carry with them an equally large risk, including a huge reputational risk, particularly for crucial projects by the government,” he said. “It is the government’s prerogative and discretion to award projects using a variety of approaches that includes open and closed tenders as well as directly negotiated processes, to the contractors and developers they feel will deliver the project as promised.”

Malaysia’s reputation as a place to conduct business has deteriorated in recent years, according to Transparency International, the Berlin-based advocacy group that publishes an annual Corruption Perceptions Index.

‘Monument of Corruption’

Transparency ranked the country 47th out of 180 in 2008, down from 43rd in 2007. Transparency also has singled out the Bakun Hydroelectric Dam, under construction on the Balui River in Sarawak, as a “monument of corruption.”

The index lacks fairness, says Ahmad Said Hamdan, chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, because it doesn’t take into consideration the size of the population of the countries in the ranking, for example.

“I’ve seen a lot of improvement in civil service in the past 10 years,” he says.

Dead Fish

Early this year, hundreds of dead fish started floating on the muddy river near the Bakun dam site. The fish were killed by siltation, which was triggered by uncontrolled logging upstream, Sarawak’s assistant minister of environment and public health, Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen, says. He says the Bakun dam has very strict environmental assessments and isn’t to blame for the siltation.

In January, Tenaga Nasional Bhd., Malaysia’s state- controlled power utility, and Sarawak Energy said they won approval from the national government to take over the operation of the hydropower project through a leasing agreement. Sarawak Energy also won preliminary approval to export about 1,600 megawatts of electricity from the 2,400-megawatt Bakun project, once it begins operating, to Peninsular Malaysia. The remaining power will go to Sarawak.

Taib announced a plan called New Concept in 1994. The aim was to bring together local people, with their customary rights to the land, and private shareholders, who would provide capital and expertise to create plantations. The plan called for companies to hold a 60 percent stake in the joint ventures, the state to own 10 percent and the remaining 30 percent to go to local communities in return for a 60-year lease on their land.

‘Emotional’ Disputes

That time period equals about two complete cycles of oil palm development. An oil palm typically matures in 3 years, reaches peak production from 5 to 7 years and continues to produce for about 25 years, says Nirgunan Tiruchelvam, a commodities analyst at Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc in Singapore.

The policy has led to some disagreements. In his interview with Bernama in 2001, Taib said land acquisitions by the state have led to “emotional” disputes because some people seek too much compensation.

“We are not allowed to pay more than market value,” he told Bernama. He said people need to prove that they have traditionally lived in an area -- for example, by providing an aerial photograph -- in order for the state to grant them title to the land.

“If there are disputes, they go to the court,” Taib told Bernama.

Some local people say they received no compensation at all for their land. In Kampung Lebor, a village about a two-hour drive from Kuching, 160 families, members of the Iban group that was formerly headhunters, live in longhouses and survive by fishing and some farming. The Iban are Sarawak’s largest single group of Dayaks, who make up about half of the state’s 2.3 million population.

Land Overlap

In mid-1996, the state handed out parcels of land that overlapped with the community’s customary hunting and fishing areas to the Land Custody and Development Authority and Nirwana Muhibbah Bhd., a palm oil company in Kuching.

In mid-1997, the authority and the company cleared the land with bulldozers and planted oil palm seedlings, according to a copy of Kampung Lebor’s writ of summons filed to the High Court in Kuching.

Government ‘Cruel’

“The government is cruel,” says Jengga Jeli, 54, a father of five in Lebor. “Fruit trees have been cut down. It’s become harder to hunt and fish. Now we are forced to get meat and vegetables from the bazaar, and we are very poor.” Jengga’s village filed a lawsuit in 1998 against Nirwana, LCDA and the state government in a bid to get compensation.

The case was finally heard in 2006 and is now awaiting judgment, according to Baru Bian, who is representing the Iban in Kampung Lebor. Reginal Kevin Akeu, a lawyer at Abdul Rahim Sarkawi Razak Tready Fadillah & Co. Advocates, which is representing Nirwana and LCDA, declined to comment.

The cases show that the development projects, including plantations and dams, haven’t helped poverty among the local people, many of whom live without adequate electricity or schools, says Richard Leete, who served as the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei from 2003 to 2008.

Poverty Remains

“This is the paradox of Sarawak -- the great wealth it has, the natural resources in such abundance, and yet such an impoverishment and the real hardship these communities are suffering,” says Leete, who chronicled Malaysia’s progress since its independence from Britain in his book “Malaysia: From Kampung to Twin Towers” (Oxford Fajar, 2007). “There has no doubt been a lot of money politics,” he says.

In the rugged hills about 150 kilometers (93 miles) south of Kuching, some 160 Bidayuh families, known as the Land Dayaks, are clinging to their traditional habitat, while a dam is under construction nearby. They live by farming and fishing.

With only a primary school in the village, children have to go to boarding schools outside the jungle to get further education, crossing seven handmade bamboo bridges and trekking two hours over the hills when they return home.

The state has offered the Bidayuhs 7,500 ringgit per hectare, 80 ringgit per rubber tree and 60 ringgit per durian fruit tree in compensation for their native land, says Simo ak Sekam, 48, a resident of Kampung Rejoi, one of four villages in the area. In Rejoi, about half of 39 families have refused.

Bamboo Bridges

“We don’t want to move because we are happy here,” Simo says. “We feel very sad because our land will be covered with water. The young generations won’t know this land. They won’t see the bamboo bridges.”

The builder of the local reservoir is Naim Holdings -- the company headed by Chief Minister Taib’s cousin. The government awarded Naim the 310.7 million-ringgit contract without putting it out for bids. Naim’s statement announcing the deal in July 2007 said it won the job on a “negotiated basis.”

One of the most threatened groups is the Penan, nomadic people who live deep in the jungle on the upper reaches of the Baram River. On a steamy equatorial morning in late October 2007, Long Kerong village leader Kelesau Naan and his wife, Uding Lidem, walked two hours to their rice-storing hut. Kelesau, who was in his late 70s and who had protested logging activity in their area, told Uding he’d go check on an animal trap he had set nearby. He never came back.

Skull and Bones Found

Two months later, his skull and several pieces of his bones, along with his necklace made of red, yellow and white beads, surfaced on the banks of the Segita River. Inspector Sumarno Lamundi at the regional police station says the investigation is ongoing.

It was just the latest tragedy among activists working for the Penan since the early 1990s, when rampant logging took place. At least two other Penan were found dead, including Abung Ipui, a pastor and an advocate for land rights for his village. His body was found in October 1994 with his stomach cut open.

Manser, the Swiss activist for the rights of the Penan, vanished without a trace from the Borneo rain forests in May 2000 and was officially declared missing in March 2005.

Kelesau’s death has made the Penan willing to stand up for their survival.

“We are scared of something terrible happening to us if we don’t resist,” says grim-faced Bilong Oyoi, 48, headman of Long Sait, a Penan settlement close to Long Kerong.

Penans’ Resistance

Bilong, who wears a traditional rattan hat decorated with hornbill feathers, says his group is setting up blockades to resist logging activities. They are also working with NGOs to get attention for their plight and filing lawsuits.

With the help of the Basel, Switzerland-based Bruno Manser Fund, an NGO set up by the late activist, Bilong and 76 other Penan sent a letter -- which some signed using only thumb prints -- to Gilles Pelisson, the chief executive officer of French hotel chain Accor SA.

The letter urged Accor to think twice about partnering with logging company Interhill Logging Sdn. to build a 388-room Novotel Interhill in Kuching. The Penan community says Interhill’s operations in Sarawak have a devastating effect on them. Accor responded by sending a fact-finding mission to Sarawak to investigate Interhill’s logging activities.

“If the worst-case scenario occurs and if no action plan is implemented, we will not continue with our partnership,” Helene Roques, Accor’s director for sustainable development in Paris, said in June. In mid-August, she said she expects “good results” by the end of September.

Rio Tinto Venture

No foreign investor has made a larger bet on Taib’s development plans than Rio Tinto Alcan, a unit of London-based mining company Rio Tinto Plc. A joint venture between Rio Tinto and CMS for a $2 billion aluminum smelter has been negotiating power purchase agreements with Sarawak Energy for more than 12 months, according to Julia Wilkins, a Rio Tinto Alcan spokeswoman in Brisbane, Australia.

CMS meets Rio Tinto’s requirements as a joint-venture partner, she says. “CMS is a main-board-listed company with its own board of directors,” she says. “It has a free float of shares in excess of the minimum market requirement. The chairman and the group managing director are both independent.”

Malaysia grants special economic advantages to the country’s Malay majority and the local people of Sabah and Sarawak states on Borneo, collectively referred to as Bumiputra -- literally, sons of the soil.

Still, the country is leaving behind many of its ethnic minorities, says Colin Nicholas, a Malaysian activist of Eurasian descent who has written a book about the mainland’s oldest community, “The Orang Asli and the Contest for Resources” (IWGIA, 2000).

‘Completely Powerless’

One person trying to help the Dayaks is See Chee How, 45, a land rights lawyer who became an activist after meeting Sim, the former opposition member of parliament in Kuching.

In 1994, See witnessed an attack on Penan demonstrators who’d erected a roadblock to prevent logging trucks from driving through their land. A 6-year-old boy died after security forces used tear gas on the demonstrators, he says.

“They were completely powerless,” recalls the soft-spoken, crew-cut See, sporting a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans, in his office above a bustling market in Kuching. “They were depending on logging trucks to move around because their passageways had been destroyed by logging trails.” See now works with Baru Bian, 51, one of the first land rights lawyers representing the Dayaks in Sarawak.

Lawsuits and Votes

Nicholas says Sarawak’s people have to fight for their rights not only through lawsuits but by voting.

“The biggest problem we have with indigenous people’s rights is that we have the federal government and state government run and dictated by people who have no respect or interest for indigenous people,” he says. “We need a change of government.”

The prime minister’s office declined to comment.

Opposition leader Anwar says change is possible. His alliance won control of an unprecedented five states in Peninsular Malaysia in a March 2008 election. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s ruling coalition has lost at least four regional polls held this year.

“I think this is a turning point,” Anwar says.

Still, Taib’s coalition won 30 of Sarawak’s 31 seats in March 2008 parliamentary elections. That helped the ruling National Front coalition led by then Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi retain a 58-seat majority, ahead of Anwar’s People’s Alliance. Sarawak is due to hold the next election by 2011.

Taib defended his government’s program to turn forestlands into oil palm plantations as a way of improving living standards for the Dayaks at a seminar on native land development in Miri on April 18, 2000.

“Land without development is a poverty trap,” he said, according to his Web site. Many Dayak people, who have seen their land transformed as a result of Taib’s policies and companies linked to him, say they are still waiting to see their share of wealth.

no JAMBATAN.. no BARISAN

Sorry to say. Tapi kami dari Permyjaya Miri amat memerlukan jambatan kedua dan pelebaran jalan bagi menghubungkan BANDAR BARU PERMYJAYA dengan Pujut 7. Dengan kehadiran ribuan penduduk, jambatan dan jalan yang ada sekarang tidak dapat menampung jumlah kenderaan yang ada.

Saya seringkali mengajukan soalan ini kepada beberapa YB di Miri, tapi sampai sekarang tiada hasilnya. Jawapan yang sering didengar amat menyakitkan telinga. Belum ada peruntukan.

Saya bukan nak menyelar sesetengah YB di Miri. Tetapi, menurut pegawai JKR yang menelefon saya (berikutan dengan kes di TaliKhidmat), sekali lagi kita tidak diberikan peruntukan. Mereka tengah berusaha mendapatkan "peruntukan" dengan memberikan statistik sebenar akan kenderaan yang keluar masuk mengikuti jalan itu.

Bercakap mengenai peruntukan. Saya akan menuding jari dengan Kerajaan persekutuan. Kami penduduk Permyjaya meminta satu jambatan dan pelebaran jalan. Itu jer setakat ni. Bukan nak mengungkit... tapi ingatlah. Duit yang digunakan kat PUTRAJAYA tu merupakan hasil bumi Miri. Hasil dari perut tanah Miri.
Kalau mampu bina jambatan cantik - cantik di Putrajaya, takkanlah jambatan rangka besi pun tak mampu nak buat. Duit tu datang dari sini tau (walaupun bukan semuanya). Janganlah lupa daratan.

Dan yang membingungkan lagi.... Pihak pemaju perumahan - Naim Cendera mengatakan yang jambatan baru dan pelebaran jalan akan dilakukan tahun ini. Setakat ini.. cuma parit yang sudah digali beberapa bulan lepas. Lepas tu dibalut semula oleh semak samun. Hasrat mereka untuk membina jambatan tersebut juga telah disokong oleh YB Lee Kim Shin. Saya harap YB dapat bertanyakan kepada Naim Cendera... mana jalan tu? Dah diangkut ke Mukah ker?

Jangan pulak sampai next term tak dapat angkat sumpah. Susah tu YB. Kalau dah janji tu..... kotakanlah. Kalau bukan dalam bidang kuasa YB, tolonglah tagih tagih bagi pihak rakyat yang kononnya didahulukan.

Naim Cendera pulak buat derkkk... Buat selamba jer. Untung berjuta juta. Taja macam macam event. Tapi bisnes sendiri tak pandai jaga. Tu baru satu. Kedua pula ialah CMS Road... bla bla bla. Semuanya tak guna.

Janji Naim tak ubah macam janji orang politik.

Its not something that we always did in our life. For me, this is the second time. My second employment was on the contract terms. And also, I have been written this kind of letter many many if not hundreds time oledi. But for my friends la. This time it is for me.

Yesterday, after going back from dinner, I decide to put off my current employment. For good, for me and the most, for my son Rado.

This morning, as I type my resignations letter, I feel sad because I will leaving this company soon. Well, its 30 days notice actually. I have been here for 7 years. But its life. Everything has its ending.

In less than a minutes after I handed my letter, my superior put his signature on it. My employer accept my resignation.

So, on 17th June 2009 - 5.01pm Local Time, or Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 09:01:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) I am no longer staff of Mega Hotel Miri.

SIBU: Istilah "Dayak", yang dicipta oleh penjajah bagi merujuk kepada 26 masyarakat bukan Islam di Sarawak pada 1820-an, tidak lagi wajar digunakan sekarang, kata Timbalan Menteri Pembangunan Luar Bandar dan Wilayah Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun. Katanya, penggunaan istilah itu patut dihentikan kerana ia membawa konotasi negatif seperti tidak bertamadun, kasar dan berkelas rendah.

"Malah, beberapa tahun lepas, beberapa pemimpin masyarakat bukan Islam Sarawak mencadangkan agar kerajaan menggugurkan penggunaan istilah itu.

"Saya percaya cadangan ini mendapat sokongan menyeluruh daripada pemimpin dan mereka yang berkenaan.

"Oleh itu, saya ingin mengulangi saranan kepada kerajaan supaya menimbang untuk menggugurkan penggunaan istilah itu," katanya kepada pemberita selepas menyaksikan upacara pelantikan anggota jawatankuasa baru Kesatuan Kebangsaan Dayak Sarawak (SDNU) Cawangan Rajang, yang diketuai pengerusinya Maj (B) Mosses Ripai di sini malam tadi.

Entulu berkata walaupun merangkumi lebih separuh daripada 2.5 juta penduduk negeri ini, masyarakat pribumi Sarawak, masih belum diiktiraf berdasarkan kumpulan etnik masing-masing.

"Kalau kita lihat pada borang atau dokumen rasmi, dalam ruangan bagi bangsa, mereka hanya menyebut sama ada Melayu, Cina, India atau lain-lain.

"Ini berlaku walaupun pada hakikatnya, mereka yang dirujuk sebagai "Dayak" ini, merupakan penduduk majoriti negeri ini dan antara kumpulan penduduk utama negara ini.

"Saya percaya, adalah lebih bijaksana dan tepat, jika istilah khusus seperti Iban, Bidayuh, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit dan sebagainya digunakan," kata beliau.

Entulu berkata beliau mendapat tahu bahawa ada anggota masyarakat Dayak yang bekerja di Semenanjung Malaysia, tidak dibenarkan melabur dalam Amanah Saham Nasional atau memohon rumah kos rendah kerana ada pihak menganggap mereka bukan kaum bumiputera.

Terdahulu, dalam ucapannya, Entulu menasihati pertubuhan sosial dan kebudayaan seperti SDNU, Persatuan Dayak Iban Sarawak dan sebagainya supaya tidak terlibat dengan politik.

"Serahkan saja politik kepada orang politik. Persatuan anda akan menerima padah apabila pemimpinnya bertindak sebagai orang politik," kata beliau. BERNAMA

Namun gambar ini pastinya menarik perhatian ramai.

Saya bukan Muslim dan bukan juga Kristian.

Pada mulanya, saya tak nak ikut campur dalam bidang agama ni. Selain dari bukan penganut kedua dua agama tersebut, saya bukan juga ahli ilmu teologi.

Tetapi saya menentang akan tindakan Kementerian untuk menyekat pihak Kristian dari menggunakan perkaatan Allah.

Ini kerana saya menyokong kebebasan untuk memilih agama adalah pilihan individu dewasa. Bukan ditentukan oleh kerajaan, masyarakat dan ibu bapa.

Kedua-dua pihak masing masing bertikam lidah. Tidak kurang juga pihak Muslim yang menyokong pihak Kristian.

Bagi saya, memandangkan pihak Muslim sememangnya tidak pernah menukar perkataan Allah (Islam) kepada perkataan selepas Al-Quran diterjemahkan, mengapa tidak pihak Kristian mengalah dan menukar perkataan Allah (Kristian) kepada yang lain. Mungkin kepada Tuhan Bapa, atau yang lain.

Dengan SYARAT. Minta kerajaan malaysia memberikan PAMPASAN bagi menaggung kerugian dalam mencetak semula BIBLE dan semua perkataan Allah (Kristain) yang ada termasuk yang ada di kereta abang ipar aku.

1. I would like to have the Malaysian Armed Forces attack the United States and Israel.

2. But I don't think the Government and the MAF would agree with me.

3. So what do we do?

4. We could blockade the United States and deny it food and medicine.

5. The blockade would have to go on for a hundred years. A lot of innocent people would die. But as Madeleine Albright said when asked whether killing 500,000 Iraqi babies was worth it, she said it was difficult but it was worth it. So Malaysians should not mind killing a few million Americans including babies because although it will be difficult it would be worth it.

6. But I suspect we cannot blockade either.

7. So what do we do? Let the bully do what it likes? But the bully is killing lots of innocent people together with small children and babies.

But on the other hand we need to drink Coca-Cola, use the Internet, fly Boeing jets, see Rambo movies etc etc. Can we sacrifice all these simply because babies are being decapitated by Israeli soldiers using highly sophisticated and costly weapons donated by the kind Americans? Of course we cannot.

9. What we can do is totally worthless. We can boycott US products.

10. But can we? Well not completely. Maybe partially. Like not drinking Coca-Cola, or not seeing the latest blockbuster.

11. It is not going to stop the United States from remaining the most powerful nation and continuing to kill people directly or indirectly.

12. But if 10 per cent of the people in the world who drink Coca-Cola stop drinking it there would be some impact. If Malaysians drink, say 50 per cent less Coca-Cola (because their lives depend on it) there would be some impact also. If nothing else it will demonstrate our displeasure with the Americans.

13. But what about the Malaysians working in factories producing coke? I don't believe they produce only Coca-Cola. They produce other drinks as well. If people switch from Coca-Cola to another drink produced by the same company, then the company will have to produce more of this alternative drink and there would be no need to close down and sack the workers.

14. The idea is to do what we can to show displeasure at what the US is doing. We will not bring the US economy crashing down. It will continue to prosper. But the US and Americans must know how much the world dislike or even hate them.

15. Presently the President of the United States claims "the world respects America for its compassion".

16. I am appending below an article by Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration.

17. Please read it carefully since you may think as a Muslim I am biased against the United States and Israel.

Very well established a logical basis leaning on an ex Reagan administration that is having microphones and cameras in the Bush administration, Mr. Paul Craig Roberts. You are always collecting the facts not from the first source just from the second hand washed cloth. Of course an anti Jew will look on anti Jew information. You may refer to Al Qaeda humanitarian organization for more information, they have plenty of it.

Oh, great hero. You had the chance to do it while you were the PM in service. Why didn't you tried out the strength of the Malaysian army and its skills? You care about the babies of Iraq, Palestinians, etc... How lucky we are you don't need to care about the Jewish children suffering daily rockets from Hamas who is a Muslim charity organization. Oh, their 8 years of rockets in a quantity of thousands were full of candies ammunition that was spreading sweets to the children of Sederot and the Negev.

Since Jews are controlling everyone by proxy, I'm not sure you, Dr. Mahathir are not controlled by them as well. You'll say that you are not controlled, but I can assure you that I'm controlling you. Can you deny it? Even Malaysia is manipulated by Jews, that's why they are not attacking the US and Israel. You should check very well among your government ministers and officials and find the Trojan horses there.

You hate Israel not because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but you hate only because the hatred of Muslims against Jews, the apes and swine. Your hate is not political, but religious. You are just sinking into the modern era darkness.

You said once in one of your speeches that Muslims should use their brains to get rid of 13 Million Jews dominance among 1.3 billion Muslims. Are you a role model? Do you have the wisdom to do it? Do you have the power to do it? Do you know why your plan is not accomplished? It is because it is not true, not logical, unjustified, not because the Jew are controlling the world by proxy. I think you are mistaken with me as defining me as full of vengeance and hatred.

I'm sorry to disappoint you since I have many Malaysian friends, among them Muslims.

It is not me who seeks revenge; it is Dr. Mahathir who wants to attack Israel using the MAF.

Let me ask you honestly, can it be that Dr. Mahathir and/or the Muslims are always right? They didn't anything wrong, even once?

When Israel is doing a mistake, it is admitting it openly and has apology among the people who were affected by that mistake.

Muslims, in counter, when they are mistaken, they always tend to blame others. When Muslims are killing Muslims (not apes and swine like Jews), they have no apology at all. Sunni are killing Shiite or vice versa and they blame America and Israel "which controls it by proxy".

I'm attaching two video clips (and please don't censor it) that is proving how Hamas is treating their own brothers Palestinians. The person who is explaining the clip is a Palestinian himself.

So what I think is that Dr. Mahathir and the Malaysian government should first look how the Palestinians can improve their own behavior among themselves before dealing how to attack Israel.
I would suggest not jumping into a war that it is not certain how it will end. In a war there are solely losers, losers of peace.

I would like to see Dr. Mahathir living just 24 hours in Sederot when rockets are falling around in quantities of about 50 recently on a daily basis.
I don't think neither Dr. Mahathir faced once in his life what means a war nor many Malaysians. I wish you peace and not war.

Let me ask you, and the reasons may be whatever they are, justified or not justified - sending the MAF to attack Israel will solve the problem? Will it promote peace? Do you think that the MAF can do that job and enforce peace in the Middle East? If yes, then why isn't it executed?

I understand very well the anger and frustration of Dr. Mahathir as well as other Malaysians, but such declarations of such a respected person should be calculated very well. Anger is bringing more anger and this is the easy way of expression. Restraining anger is more difficult, more powerful and this what Israel was doing 8 years of rockets launching on Sederot and the Negev (thousands of them). Where was Dr. Mahathir when Jews had civilian casualties by Hamas? Oh yes, when Jews are killed it is well done and no person must complain. But when a Jews are self defending and Muslims are killed, this cannot be accepted and it is called a massacre.

Let me just cite a proverb that Golda Meir said once which is so true:
"We can forgive the Arabs killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us (the Jews)".

Despite all (and I'm aware that many of Malay hate me), you still have my peaceful hand to shake, you just need to want.

Tempat memanggang (BBQ) di Tanjong Lobang telah diganti dengan yang baru. Beberapa kerja lain seperti penaanaman bunga dan lanskaping juga telah dimulakan beberapa bulan yang lepas.

3) Tiada lampu menerangi kawasan tanjong lobang pada waktu malam, jeti juga harus disediakan lambu bagi tujuan riadah dan mengurangkan aktiviti yang tidak sihat
4) Tandas ditutup terlalu awal - pada jam 5, sepatutnya tutup pada jam 10 (seperti yang dilekatkan pada dinding)
6) Kekurangan tong sampah - Tong sampah terlalu kecil untuk memuatkan sampah pada cuti umum dan hujung minggu

Seperti yang digembar gemburkan selama ini, hampir seluruh dunia mengetahui. Hari ini sepatutnya bermula era pemerintahan PAKATAN RAKYAT. Semua orang menunggu. Ingin melihat bagaimanakah Anwar mengotakan janjinya.

Ternyata Anwar gagal. Biar saya ulang.

Sidang akhbar yang ditayangkan secara langsung dari ibupejabat PKR melalui http://www.justin.tv/anwaribrahim hanya merobekan semangat penyokong Anwar. Pengumuman Anwar hanya melemahkan kepercayaan rakyat. Kenyataan Anwar hanya akan memperbolehkan Anwar sendiri dan PAKATAN RAKYAT dipersendakan oleh BARISAN NASIONAL.

Malam ini, kita akan melihat Prime Monster menari nari mempersendakan Anwar. Tengoklah.

Tetapi Anwar tidaklah tersungkur. Sebaliknya 16 September adalah tanda permulaan bagi mengambil alih kerajaan. Anwar mengesahkan yang dia mempunyai 31 Ahli Parlimen yang sedia melompat. Bagaimanapun, Anwar tidak mahu memberikan nama mereka.

Anwar juga mendakwa surat sudah pun dihantar kepada Prime Monster untuk memaklumkan hal tersebut. Anwar inginkan peralihan kuasa yang aman tanpa dicemari oleh perkara yang tidak diingini. Anwar hanya menunggu untuk bertemu dengan Prime Monster

Selain itu, Anwar mensyaratkan:

1) Agar Barisan Nasional tidak menghalang ahli parlimennya dari bertindak menurut suara hati mereka, hak yang dijamin undang-undang serta keputusan yang mereka buat tanpa paksaan;

2) BN tidak boleh menggunakan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri untuk menahan ahli parlimen yang berhasrat untuk menyertai Pakatan Rakyat atau ahli parlimen Pakatan Rakyat yang berjumlah 82 itu;

3) Kerajaan BN tidak seharusnya menggunakan kuasa darurat, kuasa polis, atau menggantung perlembagaan mahupun membubarkan parlimen di dalam usaha mereka untuk menghalang Pakatan Rakyat dari berkuasa;

4) Dan Kerajaan Barisan Nasional tidak membuat sekatan jalan raya dan menghalang ahli parlimen, dari memasuki parlimen dan juga institusi-institusi kerajaan lainnya.

Sekiranya Prime Monster tidak mengendahkan hal ini, Pakatan rakyat bersedia untuk menghadap Yang Di Pertuan Agong.

Kita hanya mampu tunggu dan lihat. Dan saya pun terpaksa "delay"kan hasrat saya untuk menyumpah Anwar.

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, yang mengkritik kerajaan kerana menggunakan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) minggu lepas, telah menyerahkan surat peletakan jawatan sebagai Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri sebentar tadi.

Menurut sumber, surat tersebut diserahkan kepada pejabat Perdana Menteri di Putrajaya pada 2 petang.

Zaid melahirkan rasa tidak senangnya pada langkah kerajaan menangkap exco kerajaan Selangor dan juga ahli parlimen DAP Teresa Kok, pengendali blog Malaysia Today Raja Petra Kamaruddin dan wartawan Sin Chew Daily Tan Hoon Cheng atas dakwaan mengancam keselamatan negara, Jumaat lalu.

Menteri di Jabatan Perdana, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim yang menjaga hal-ehwal perundangan, sanggup meletak jawatan jika kerajaan terus menggunakan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA) yang disifatkannya sebagai 'tidak adil'.

Ahli politik BN yang lantang bersuara itu juga mendesak supaya ahli parlimen DAP, Teresa Kok dan blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin yang ditahan di bawah ISA dibebaskan segera.

Wartawan Sin Chew Daily Tan Hoon Cheng turut ditahan di bawah ISA tetapi telah dibebaskan semalam.

"Kita mempunyai sebuah kerajaan yang komited kepada undang-undang dan pembaharuan, kita tidak boleh menggunakan politik gaya lama atau bertindak mewujudkan ketakutan.

"Kita ada undang-undang dan mereka boleh didakwa di mahkamah.

"Saya sedang berusaha untuk bertemu Perdana Menteri (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) minggu ini untuk menyatakan pendirian saya itu kepada beliau.

"Jika (beliau menganggap) pendirian saya itu tidak dapat dipertahankan, saya akan letak jawatan," katanya ketika dihubungi Malaysiakini dari Kota Baru hari ini.

Beliau telah mengadakan sidang akhbar di kediamannya di Kota Bharu hari ini di mana beliau becakap mengenai perkara yang sama.

Bernama memetik beliau Zaid sebagai berkata, penggunaan ISA hendaklah dikhususkan untuk pengganas, komunis dan pihak yang cuba menjatuhkan kerajaan secara paksa.

"Tujuan asal (ISA), digunakan terhadap pengganas bersenjata, orang yang hendak menggulingkan kerajaan secara paksaan...komunis. Jadi, kita perlu tetap dengan itu," katanya.

Zaid berkata negara mempunyai banyak undang-undang yang boleh digunapakai bagi menangani isu-isu seperti ketegangan kaum dan mengancam keselamatan negara.

"Di dalam negara kita ada banyak undang-undang yang boleh digunakan oleh pihak polis untuk menahan mereka tanpa menggunakan ISA.

"Kita ada undang-undang Akta Hasutan dan Kanun Keseksaan yang boleh menjelaskan kepada rakyat kenapa mereka boleh dikenakan tindakan undang-undang tanpa menggunakan ISA," katanya.

Zaid juga berkata banyak lagi pendekatan yang boleh digunakan untuk mengurangkan perbezaan kaum atau isu perkauman termasuk melalui sesi dialog dan perbincangan secara aman.

Mengenai pencalonannya untuk bertanding jawatan Ketua Umno Bahagian Kota Bharu, Zaid berkata beliau kesal dengan tindakan bahagian yang membatalkan mesyuarat peringkat cawangan yang mencalonkan dirinya.

"Tapi ianya sudah menjadi syarat jadi saya perlu patuh kepada keputusan bahagian. Saya tidak akan merayu. Sehingga kini saya sudah mendapat 20 pencalonan," katanya.

Jawatan ketua Umno bahagian itu dijangka menyaksikan perebutan antara pemangku ketua, Datuk Mohd Fatmi Salleh dengan Zaid yang merupakan ketua bahagian itu sebelum beliau digantung keanggotaannya selama 18 bulan bermula 1 Januari 2007.
Komen seorang lagi menteri
Manakala seorang lagi menteri kabinet, Datuk Dr S Subramaniam berkata walaupun kerajaan sensitif terhadap perasaan rakyat, tetapi ia harus menerima hakikat bahawa sebahagian besar rakyat menolak ISA dan tidak mahu ia digunakan.

"Kita mempunyai cukup undang-undang untuk menangani semua bentuk tindak tanduk yang merbahaya dan tidak bertanggungjawab. Mengapa tidak gunakannya?" soal menteri sumber manusia itu.

Tambahnya, kemungkinan seseorang itu ditahan tanpa diberi peluang membela diri adalah bertentangan dengan kepercayaan popular hari ini.

Menurut Subramaniam lagi, suasana politik semasa negara telah menimbulkan kebimbangan semua kaum.

Oleh itu, tegasnya, rakyat tanpa mengira latarbelakang politik dan ideologi, perlu menyedari situasi semasa dan bertindak secara bertanggungjawab.

Kebebasan, tambahnya, perlu digunakan secara bertanggungjawab kerana jika tidak, ia boleh mencetuskan kacau bilau dan menghancurkan kebebasan itu sendiri.

Tegasnya, blogger seperti Raja Petra harus sedar bahawa mereka tidak boleh menggunakan kebebasan dunia siber untuk memprovokasi dan menghina orang lain tanpa berdepan dengan risiko dikenakan tindakan terhadap mereka.
Reaksi MCA
Sementara, MCA - parti komponen kedua terbesar BN - pula berpendapat, jika ISA benar-benar perlu, ia sepatutnya hanya digunakan dalam kes yang sangat ekstrem.
"Jika tidak Akta ini sendiri adalah satu ancaman terhadap peraturan perundangan dan asas kebebasan sebagaimana yang termaktub dalam Perlembagaan kita," katanya dalam kenyataan hari Ahad," kata Presidennya, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

Katanya, penggubal ISA sendiri, mendiang Profesor RH Hickling, pernah berkata, akta itu hanya untuk melawan pemberontak Komunis dan mereka yang terlibat dalam perjuangan bersenjata.

"Jika benar keselamatan negara terancam, mesti ada bukti kukuh untuk membuktikannya.
"Jika tidak, mereka yang ditahan (mengikut ISA) perlu didakwa di mahkamah di mana terdapat undang-undang yang mencukupi untuk tujuan itu," katanya.

Kem Tahanan ISA

Kem Tahanan Perlindungan Kamunting adalah sebuah kem tahanan yang terletak di Kamunding, berdekatan dengan Taiping, Perak, di Malaysia. Kem tahanan ini digunakan oleh kerajaan bagi menempatkan tahanan di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA). Pusat tahan ini juga dikenali sebagai Malaysia's Supermax prison.

Penahanan
Tahanan ISA lazimnya diletakkan di bawah tahanan di Pusat Tahanan Kamunting.

60 hari pertama
Seseorang yang ditahan di bawah ISA semasa 60 hari pertama tidak dibenarkan berkomunikasi dengan dunia luar. Tambahan pula, peguam dan ahli keluarga tidak dibenarkan melawat orang yang ditahan semasa tempoh awal ini. Jika satu perintah penahanan dua tahun ditandatangani, orang yang ditahan akan dibawa ke Pusat Tahanan Kamunting untuk tempoh yang ditetapkan, dan ahli keluarga lazimnya dibenarkan melawat semasa tempoh ini. Jika tidak, orang yang ditahan akan dibebaskan.

Penyeksaan
Penyeksaan dilaporkan menjadi sebahagian daripada kehidupan harian tahanan ISA. Mereka yang pernah ditahan menyatakan bahawa mereka telah didera secara fizikal dan mental yang termasuk salah satu daripada senarai ini: pukulan, penanggalan pakaian, soal siasat 24 jam, ketidakbenaran tidur, ancaman bunuh, ancaman deraan fizikal pada ahli keluarga termasuk ancaman rogol kepada anak mereka. Juga, tahanan diletakkan secara individu dalam sel penjara kecil tanpa cahaya dan udara, dalam yang dipercayai menjadi sel tahanan rahsia. Teknik dan aksi penyeksaan ini direka untuk memalukan dan menakutkan tahanan supaya mendedahkan kekurangan dan memecahkan pertahanan mereka.

Pelaksanaan undang undang kurang waras seperti ISA semakin menjadi jadi di Malaysia. Penahanan 3 orang dibawah akta tersebut memburukkan lagi nama Malaysia di mata dunia.

Antara alasan yang digunakan oleh pihak berkuasa adalah "UNTUK MELINDUNGI MEREKA".

Logikkah? Katak pun tahu cakap sebegitu adalah pembohongan.

Mungkin selepas ini kita harus beringat, selain kemalangan dan kecelakaan, ISA juga menanti anda. Tak kira la anda tengah mandi ker, tidur ker. Bila bila masa jer Prime Monster suruh, anda akan "DILINDUNGI" di bawah ISA

Raja Petra ditahan bawah ISA

Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin telah ditahan di bawah Akta Keselamatan Negeri (ISA) kerana didakwa boleh mengganggu dan mengancam keselamatan dan ketenteraman awam.

Menurut Menteri Dalam Negeri, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Raja Petra ditahan mengikut Seksyen 731 ISA yang membenarkan penahanan sehingga 60 hari.

"Polis akan membuat penilaian dalam tempoh tersebut dan jika mereka merasakan beliau perlu ditahan lebih 60 hari, maka polis akan merujuk kepada saya," katanya seperti yang dipetik oleh The Star.

Bernama pula memetik Syed Hamid sebagai berkata, tindakan itu diambil setelah pelbagai kenyataan dibuat oleh Raja Petra dalam laman blog Malaysia Today termasuk yang terbaru yang didakwa menghina Islam dan Nabi Muhammad (SAW).

"Kita telah banyak kali memanggil dan menasihatkan beliau berikutan kenyataannya namun beliau masih terus menulis hingga boleh menimbulkan ancaman," katanya.

Syed Hamid juga mengesahkan bahawa surat tunjuk sebab telah dihantar kepada Sin Chew Daily, The Sun and Suara Keadilan.

"Mereka mempunyai tempoh seminggu untuk menjawab," tambahnya.

Menurut isteri Raja Petra - Marina Lee Abdullah - 10 anggota polis datang ke rumah mereka di Sungai Buluh pada kira-kira jam 1.10 tengahari tadi untuk menahannya.

Ketika Malaysiakini menghubunginya pada jam 1.25 tengahari, anggota polis masih berada di rumahnya.

Raja Petra kemudiannya dibawa polis dari rumahnya pada jam 1.50 tengahari ke lokasi yang tidak diketahui.

Pada 6 September lalu, Menteri Dalam Negeri, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar telah memberi amaran bahawa editor lamanweb Malaysia Today itu mungkin dikenakan ISA kerana menyiarkan komen yang didakwa menghina Islam dan Nabi Muhammad.

Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim), Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim), Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (Maiwp) dan Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (Jawi), telah membuat laporan polis terhadap Raja Petra berhubung perkara itu.

Mereka mendakwa komen beliau dalam artikel yang bertajuk "I Promise to be a good, non-hypocritical Muslim" didakwa menggunakan ayat-ayat yang menghina orang Islam.

Lamanweb Malaysia Today telah disekat sejak minggu lalu, tetapi sekatan itu telah ditarik balik semalam.

Raja Petra, yang popular dengan panggilan RPK, juga didakwa telah membenarkan komen-komen disiarkan dalam lamanwebnya yang menghina Islam dan Nabi Muhammad, dalam artikel bertajuk "Not all Arabs are descendants of the Prophet".

Sementara itu, Marina berkata, mereka masih belum melantik peguam untuk mengendalikan perkara itu.

Ini adalah kali kedua Raja Petra ditahan di bawah ISA, yang membenarkan tahanan tanpa bicara.

Kali pertama, beliau ditangkap di bawah ISA pada 11 April 2001 ketika gerakan reformasi di mana sembilan orang telah ditahan. Pada masa itu, beliau merupakan webmaster lamanweb FreeAnwar.com
ketika itu.

Raja Petra dibebaskan selepas ditahan selama 52 hari. Bagaimanapun, enam daripada pemimpin reformasi itu dihantar ke Kem Tahanan Kamunting di Taiping di mana mereka ditahan selama dua tahun.

Sebelum ini, Raja Petra telah dihadapkan ke mahkamah atas tuduhan menghasut dan memfitnah selepas mengaitkan Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dan isterinya dengan kes pembunuhan Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Abdul Razak Baginda, rakan rapat Najib, didakwa bersubahat membunuh wanita Mongolia yang berusia 28 tahun itu, di mana mayatnya telah diletupkan.

Dua anggota polis, yang tugas mereka termasuk mengawal keselamatan timbalan perdana menteri, menghadapi tuduhan membunuh Altantuya.

ISA yang dibantah oleh kumpulan-kumpulan hak asasi manusia, membolehkan seseorang itu ditahan tanpa bicara selama dua tahun - dan boleh dilanjutkan setiap tahun seterusnya - dan biasannya digunakan terhadap suspek pengganas.

Ia juga digunakan terhadap mereka yang tidak sehaluan dengan kerajaan dan tahun lalu, lima orang pemimpin Hindraf telah ditahan tiga selepas mereka menganjurkan perhimpunan besar-besaran di Kuala Lumpur pada 25 November.
